1. When should you start brushing?
You can begin oral care even before any teeth come in—ideally when your baby is around 3–4 months old. Gently wipe the gum pads and tongue with a clean gauze wrapped around your finger. This helps keep the mouth clean, soothes gum irritation during teething, and gets your baby used to the brushing routine.

2. What kind of brush should you use?
Once your baby’s first tooth erupts, you can start using a soft silicone finger brush, which is gentle and easy to sterilize. As your baby grows—usually after one year—you can gradually transition to a soft-bristled baby toothbrush designed for infants.

3. Which Toothpaste Should I Use?
In the beginning, toothpaste isn’t necessary. Simply wet the toothbrush with water and start brushing. If you do choose to use toothpaste, make sure it’s fluoride-free, as infants can’t spit it out. Once your child learns to spit—usually around 2 to 3 years of age—you can begin using a pea-sized amount of fluoridated toothpaste.
